TIPS FOR LOOKING FOR A  CAPTAIN or a Guide

Ask these questions to ensure you know how qualified your guide or captain is.

  1. Is your Guide or Captain licensed, knowledgeable and reputable?
  2. What type of  licenses does he/she hold?  There are several  levels of licenses that the captain or guide can obtain.  These licenses start from what is known as a six-pac inland and up from there depending of the expertise and knowledge that has been attained.
  3. Is he/she medically trained?  Do they continually up-date that knowledge base?
  4. Is he/she in a drug testing program?   If not, they are not legal.  It is a certified Coast Guide requirement that you must be in a drug testing program to maintain your guide or captain license.
  5. Are your lodgings clean and comfortable as conditions permit?
  6. Does he/she really seem to care about your needs and/or concerns?
    Because out there you are not just a number.
    bulletYour captain or guide should first be concerned  with your safety;
    bulletThen if your having a good time;
    bulletThen that you get your fish or game .
    SAFETY FIRST, your fish or game is the coup de grace,
    the finishing touch of the trip of a life time,
    HAVE FUN.
  7. Finally but not the least -  Pricing - are you getting what you pay for?  Do NOT comprise price for quality.

For a reputable and experienced full time operation  you cannot afford cheap . Equipment and fulltime operation cost a lot of money, so do your homework on the area and prices in that area.  Look for a medium-pay  to high-quality outfit  then ask questions.  Sometimes more is not better, but less is seldom ever an option.  If it sounds extremely cheap,  there's usually a reason...  There's always an exception; but as rule I would not chance it with out asking a lot of questions.  If your outfitter cares about you and wants your business, they will answer your questions  and not be offended.  If they seem to be put out or unwilling to answer any and/or all your questions, what is going to happen in the field or on the water or where you need to trust them.

HUNTING AND FISHING is probably the most rewarding experience you can pass down to your loved ones especially in this fast passed world.  It is almost a personal-religious experience.  Do not let someone who does not believe this part you and your money and ruin your experience with the natural world.

                         ALWAYS REMEMBER  SAFETY FIRST
